Our local community is hugely supportive of the work that we do, in turn, we endeavour to contribute positively to the lives of those outside of our school. Whether it is through our programme of open activities, sharing our facilities, or equipping our students to value their locality, we pride ourselves in the connections we’ve made and continue to foster beyond the school walls and school hours.
We host a regular programme of after-school activities open to our local community. These are run by Spotlight, a creative youth service designed to inspire. Please visit Spotlight’s website to see what’s on.
When it was rebuilt in 2011, we ensured that our design brief spoke to the needs of the local community,
as well as those of our students. We recognise that there are many groups and initiatives in Bromley-by-Bow
that would benefit from having specialist spaces. By opening our doors, we aim to provide much needed facilities
for building skills as well as building community.
Our unique spaces suit many a purpose, whether that be for training, education, or recreation.
We have excellent transport links that make us a handy option for those coming further afield.
We offer the following spaces for hire:

'Friends of Ian Mikardo High School’ is a registered charity (Charity number 1123143) dedicated to supporting IMHS by raising funds for equipment,
services and additional support that will enrich students’ time at the school. Established in 2008, the charity plays an important part in
ensuring students have the best possible opportunities for growing into healthy, confident, happy adults.
Run entirely by volunteers, including independent Trustees, every penny donated directly benefits the young people of the school. A little goes a long way at Ian Mikardo,
and all donations make a tangible difference to the school community.
The Friends of IMHS are conscious of the school’s holistic and creative approach towards education. Our past projects reflect this and are all based on requests from the school community. In recent years, we have raised funds for repair of the jukebox and the purchase of new mountain bikes; we have also funded residential outdoor activity trips and end of term celebrations. Additionally, the Friends have provided funding for expert services such as mindfulness sessions and family mentoring.
By contributing you will help the school:
We are always looking for ways to broaden the students’ experiences and inspire them, and we are grateful for every contribution.
